Update 6 - Core Game Loop Identified!

Here's just a small update from me about the state of Protection Duty and the core game loop the game features.


So, I finally have settled on an idea which I am very excited to work on and means I will be trying my best to focus it down rather than aimlessly adding mechanics that don't contribute to the main game. So here it is!


Protection Duty is a sci-fi, 'horde' like arcade experience set in space! Protect your given target from waves of ruthless warrior pirates using your star-fighter and your surroundings. Upgrade your ship, customise your loadout and build defenses to help you survive each wave!


So, the main game loop I've settled on is a mix of the gameplay I had already with the star-fighter being what the player primarily uses with a new feature, "Tower Defense". Essentially there will be places around each level where the player can spend their currency they earn in the level to build and upgrade defenses. These will vary from Defense Towers featuring friendly AI turrets/missile towers to floating proximity mines and more.


The game also won't always have a space setting, there will be levels on planets with slightly different environmental mechanics etc. Each level will have its own pros and cons and I really am excited to implement all of this.


I have been working really hard behind the scenes to bring a new version of the game out but so far, I don't have any build ready for play. But stay tuned! Something should hopefully be out soon.
